Youngsters who are proficient in math may more consistently recruit certain brain regions and have bigger volumes of gray matter in those regions than children who are not.The brain regions associated with higher math proficiency in children who perform well have been connected to a variety of cognitive functions, such as visual attention and decision-making.This study indicates that the same brain regions involved in math are also active in attentional and decision-making processes, even if correlation does not imply causation.Contrary to popular belief, mathematical puzzles such as the one above have a lot of real-world applications! Our daily lives involve a great deal of arithmetic, and we use the skills we acquire from solving math problems on a daily basis without even recognizing it.
